The City of Warren is seeking qualified applicants without regard to race or sex for the position of Firefighter Cadet.

For individuals interested in becoming a Firefighter with the City of Warren. Classes for EMT Basic begin on November 29, 2021, followed by Fire Academy in Feb/March 2022 and a Paramedic Program/classes in Fall 2022. All costs of education and training paid for by the City of Warren. Once enrolled, paid hours of work will be at $12-$14.00/hour, with an average of 28 required working hours per week.

An Open House is taking place on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the First Floor Conference Room of Warren City Hall.

Deadline to Apply: November 6, 2021 at 12 noon. We will be accepting applications through the deadline.

  • Age 18 or older by the closing date for accepting applications (November 6, 2021)
  • U.S. citizen (Social Security Card required)
  • Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent (Diploma, college degree (if applicable) or transcripts required as proof of graduation)
  • Possess a valid driver's license to operate a vehicle in the State of Michigan. Driving record must meet city standards to be insurable.
  • Original documentation must be presented upon application.
  • An oral board interview
  • Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
  • Background investigation
  • Physical examination including drug screening and a psychological evaluation within the guidelines established by the City, as modified by current law


At the time the eligibility list is certified, preference points will be added to a passing score for the following:

Veteran's Preference:

1 point for service during a period of war or receipt of an expeditionary or campaign service medal during an emergency condition, with an honorable discharge. You must provide a copy of your Form DD214 to qualify.


Application Process :

When the City of Warren is in need to fill vacancies, applicants who score 70% or higher on the Oral Board Interview and meet Warren's preliminary requirements will receive a notification of the next step in the process. Must be available November 15 at 7:00 am to begin physical .
